How to Choose the Right Longboard Trucks?

Are you going for a customize longboard? Then it’s time to select your longboard trucks. Selecting this part of our longboard is crucial, because it’s the longboard trucks that will allow your wheels to turn as well as keep them properly anchored to your longboard. For someone who is just getting involved with longboarding, choosing the right longboard trucks can be difficult for them.

           Baseplate: This part of longboard trucks is connected to the board with four mounting hardware bolts.

           Hanger: Hanger is the part of truck that acts as the axel and holds the wheel in place.

           Bushing: Bushing is the rubber pad between the kingpin, baseplate and hanger of a longboard truck. You can choose either a harder busing or a softer bushing depending on your needs. Harder bushings are tougher to turn but return more energy, while softer bushing absorb the energy from impact and makes your turns easier.

           Kingpin: This one is a big bolt that fits inside bushings and holds the longboard truck parts together.

Here are few tips that can help to choose the right longboard trucks for your cruising longboard.

          Choose the right longboard truck width. There are basically to two longboard trucks width to choose from, 150 mm and 180 mm. Always choose the longboard truck that is closest to the width of your longboard deck.

          For skinnier cruising decks that have width less than 8.5”, select 150 mm longboard trucks. But for carving decks (usually widths ranging 8.5”- 10.5” and up), use 180 mm longboard trucks.
 
           Use reverse kingpin trucks, if you are using longboard for boardwalk or downhill race. The reverse kingpin longboard trucks are designed to allow more carving and enhance the turn ability.

          But, if you are going to use your longboard in skate park or street skating, then it’s probably best for you to use standard-kingpin style longboard trucks.  It allows for sharp response, which is needed in street skating.
